You Be the Judge

Which rejection is worse?

As a pop punk band so poetically sang... back to the drawing board.

My Weekend as a Hipster

Well... I'm sure you probably won't be very surprised to hear what happened this weekend. You'll actually be less surprised than I would have been if you told me Thursday... Or even Friday morning.

So Friday I woke up so sick and my migraine was so bad I couldn't get out of bed. I tried numerous times but finally I called my school and got a sub. (talk about an awesome job... Subbing for a student teacher means sitting and watching all day). Anyways around 10 am I finally woke up with the a horrible headache and decided I needed my mommy. So I put on the darkest sunglasses I could find and headed to Cedar. (with practically nothing packed)

I laid on my couch at home while my mom made me cauliflower soup. Life seemed as it should be when you are sick! But Chad had a convert Norwegian African Princess visiting and I had suggested we all go to Vegas so she could see Sin City and I could spend much needed time with a bestie... So although my head was killing we got in the car and headed to Vegas. I slept the whole way down. I woke up just in time to crest the hill and watch as we dropped into the sparkling skyline of Vegas. (I love that). I directed Chafd to get to my friend's house. Barby was trying to convince me to go out on the Strip with them that night. It was then and there that I realized two things:

1. My headache was FINALLY bearable.
2. I really don't like the Strip and the feeling I have after I've been there.
I looked at the beautiful African Princess in my front seat and realized on her first visit to America she doesn't need to walk down the Strip as much as she...You guessed it...She needs to go to the happiest place on Earth. So at 8 pm on Friday night I called my Aunt Raine and said "so I have some good news and some bad news... The bad news? 4 hours is pretty short notice". I laughed as I heard her yelling at everyone in the background., "Kristin's coming!!!"

(side note last Sunday when I WASN'T in CA my 3 year old "niece" I lived with last summer was riding to church and saw a girl running. Launa said, "there's Kristin!" no matter of convincing could make her believe it wasn't me. So she was pretty excited to see me Saturday morning.) (second side note. I saw a student at Disneyland. She didn't act shocked or even surprised! Her mom even said,"we wondered if we'd see you!")

So why did I turn into a hipster this weekend? Because I spent the last 40 hours in California with no clothes. So I had to borrow my cousins clothes. So I feel like if you are going to do something you might as well go big! I'm kinda in love with my new glasses.

Being Principal

Well Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday all 3 of my principals were in St. George at a Principals' Conference.  So for the last 3 days I was acting as the principal... the only principal at my school.

It reminded me a lot of the episode of Saved By the Bell when Zack was the principal.

I'm sure many... if not most of you are thinking... no big deal right?  You would not believe the fights, injuries, crimes, and over all crisis' a principal has to deal with at a school with almost 2,000 students.  I wish I could tell you what I had to handle... All day every day I was practically running from one fire to the next.  But clearly due to confidentiality I can not post anything on this blog.

So there is some great news and some pretty bummer news.

The great news.... I absolutely LOVED every minute of it!  I would LOVE to be an administrator.

The bad news.... if you remember here I applied to be an administrator in my district.... bad news... over 60 highly qualified applicants for maybe 5 positions... I didn't even get an interview.

But oh the bright side... today I am back to a lowly teacher with a student teacher. :)

My schedule today:
First period: taught Spin to the boys PE class.
Second period: Watched 24 season 1 episodes 1 and 2
Third period: Taught my favorite class and gave them the heart to heart about rising above mediocrity.
Lunch: Took Zoe to Costa Vida
Fourth period: made it back from lunch just in time to sample European chocolate and cookies.

Maybe being a teacher isn't all that bad.

Acknowledge me now or lose me forever

Possibly my favorite moment in TV history.

I just want a big dork that listens to emo.  Is that really too much to ask for???

The Bachelor

This weekend I seriously felt like I was on the Bachelor.  I went on three of the most picturesque dates ever!  But of course rather than tell you about it... I figure we'll do a picture tour of all three dates.

Date Number 1
Old Town Pasadena

We ate dinner at a DARLING Spanish Topless Tapas Bar....
Yes, the first time I heard about a Tapas Bar I thought he said topless.

We walked over to my favorite building:

After we drove over to my favorite bridge:
The night ended with hours of laughter with my family.

Date number 2
San Diego

Started with a walk around

Where he took
I LOVE Poppies!
Then we headed over to

to eat here
with this view of San Diego
where I ate
Best Caprese ever. The tomatoes were grilled!

Then we headed here

This is the basketball ARENA!!!

Where we watched these guys

Date number 3
Long Beach

He picked me up here.

And we headed to dinner here:

With this view:
Where I ate:
Halibut with a tomato caper bail relish.

Then he took me here

So I could come back to reality....

What a great guy to make such a great weekend!

Why?

So Saturday night my date asked me, "So I don't get it... again, why do you come down to southern California so much?"

I had to laugh.

But then I thought about it.  What is it?  I mean sure there is Disneyland, which clearly we all know I am almost on the edge of being considered a weirdo about.... you know, turning into one of those crazys that trades the pins... But honestly I don't think I come down for Disney.

There is the sunshine... and the smell of the ocean.  I can not deny my love for that.

But I think my date really understood why I come down here so much when I took him back to the house to meet these guys:

When I am here... with them... I see life from a different perspective.  And dude... I'll tell you what, the food is amazing!

But also, I have to show you this.  This was the reaction from Justin when he saw that I was at church yesterday.

video

With a reaction like that, who wouldn't want to come down here every other weekend?

It's Friday and I'm in love

Honestly... What more could a girl ask for on a Friday night?
Oh LA how I love you...

Friday, January 13, 2012

I think I need a sunrise, I'm tired of sunsets.

This is one of my favorite lyrics... from the song Boston by Augustana.

This day can not go fast enough.  This week has gone so so so slow.  But I am so excited to smell the ocean.  Listen to the Main Street music at Disneyland.  Eat tangerines off the Lindstrom's tree. Feel the sunshine on my face.  But most off.... I am so excited to be with people I love.

Peace out Utah.... see you Wednesday.

Job appreciation.

You know, sometimes it feels good when someone actually looks in, sees it, and gets it.  My student teacher who has now observed me for 2 weeks said today.

Have you seen the movie Ground Hogs Day?

Of course

I feel that is your life.  Teaching jr high is a lot harder than I thought.

Good luck buddy...

There's a reason why I call this job my golden handcuffs.

Heros

I'm going to try and make it through this one with out crying.  There are a few things that make me cry almost on cue.  Talking about my grandparents, my stupid bad dog Akela, and thinking about my older brother Nick.  Kinda silly right?  There is no reason for it really.   I can tell dozens of stories of things he did to pick on me while growing up... but if we are going to be honest.... I probably deserved it.

He has always been a stable force in my life for good.  He has always been there to give sound advise and counsel.  He has always been a great example of hard work.  Just last night as I was talking with my best friend from high school she even mentioned him and the impact he made in our lives.

I'm so proud that he is my brother.

Happy Birthday Nick.

Right after his 4th Marathon.... no biggie.

I didn't make it.... I  cried the whole time I wrote this post.
The good news?  Nick is as big of a crier as I am.
He even cries in Mary Poppins!

One of those days...

You know those days when you wake up and you just know everyone would have been better off if you hadn't gotten out of bed?  Well it's 7:36 am and I'm already positive it's one of those days.

The weekend can not come soon enough.

But on a happier note.  Red Lipstick.  Hilarious.

Stashing Through the Snow

Roomies

Yes, his head is THAT much smaller than mine... kinda embarrassing.

No one informed me you should put your stash at the end of your finger... hence I look like hook. :)
