One day Lars and I were in the parking garage of the Glendale Americana at Brand.
(Yes possibly my favorite shopping area ever. HUGE H&M and the whole place is just darling)
As we were walking I looked down and saw a 5 dollar bill. Of course I was excited. I walked over to pick it up then I thought about it. I pictured a cute little girl... in a little pink dress.... who did hours and hours of chores to earn that $5. She was so excited to come to the mall. Then I saw her and her mom searching the parking lot for that crumpled up $5 bill. So when Lars reached down to pick up that money, I grabbed it out of his hand and said, "No!" You should see the look of confused shock on Lars' face as we walked away.
He is still disgusted with me for not letting him keep that money. I tried to explain to him it would have been bad karma to keep that money. He said, "No Kristin, that is where you have it wrong. It is the complete opposite! That was the Karma Gods smiling down on us!"
I had completely forgotten about that incident until this morning when I came out of the grocery store at 7:30 with donuts for my students. I looked down and saw this:
A brand new unwrapped package of gum. (Oh if any of you have forgotten I am a gum-a-holic) anyways I was thrilled! I picked up the package. Put it in my car. Put the rest of my bags in the car and was about to drive away when I thought about it. Is it worth it? Is that package of gum worth the guilt?
What did I do? Well let's put it this way, if you hurry, there is a chance it's still there. :)
What would you do?

Smells, Songs, and Food. Out of no where a whole flood of memories can come rushing back.
Last night I was going on a date at 8... kinda a awkward time on a school night, in my opinion. Does that mean dinner or no dinner? If I eat dinner first and we get dinner, I don't want to eat but it's awkward if I don't eat... but if I don't eat and we don't get dinner.... well we know how I get when I don't eat.
Anyways on my way to meet my date I passed my all time favorite bakery, Village Baker. I went to the famous Portos Bakery this weekend by the way, amazing. Anyways back to Village Baker. So clearly since I didn't know if I was going to be eating on this date, I stopped and got this:
As I took my first bite of the pumpkin chocolate chip cookie (yes it is the size of your whole face) and yes I ate part of the cookie before I ate the delicious spinach cranberry pecan feta salad. Anyways back to that first bite... instantly I was back in the teachers' lounge in the warehouse we called Paradigm High School. That stupid bite made me miss it. It made me miss the crazy ideas. It made me miss the awesome students. But most of all it made me miss my friends.

I love maps. Good thing because I am a Geography Teacher. I love this feature of my iPhone. It shows all the locations of where the pictures on my iPhone were taken. So here is where I have taken pictures in the last 4 months. Kinda fun.

A bed room and a music collection. Both tell a lot about a person.
I used to love hearing my grandpa talk about this painting! The rooster looking down at the chick questioning who he thinks he is. Where the chick is looking up doing the exact same thing, Whenever I look at this painting I think of two different things. First, I should be seeking out wise Roosters to learn from. How sad that so much wisdom is being lost if someone doesn't take the time to learn from the Rooster. Second, I have so many little chicks around me that I can influence.... but also although young and lacking in experience, sometimes I can learn just as much from the questions of a naive little chick.
Painting number one.
|"Who are you?" by Oliver Parson|
|"Carpe Diam" by Sara Parson Peterson (Originally named "California Here I Come")|
Yes, that's me frolicking at the beach last Christmas.
I just barely got this painting and can not get enough of it!!! I just sit and stare at it as I am laying in bed. The world has so much to offer and this painting captures the joy that can come from going out there and seizing the day!
Every once in a while my dad and I sit and talk about what my "game plan" is. Recently when he asked I said, "Dad my game plan is to just have as much fun as possible." Shockingly he said that was a great idea. It was then that we decided to name this painting, "Carpe Diam"

Now many of you may be wondering what I crustacean, a vegetable, and a baked good could possibly have in common. And honestly I realize... not much. But the three of my favorite foods made me come to a realization that I feel is worth considering.
I have very fond memories of all of these foods. Filling up on the complimentary sourdough bread at the local steak house, biting into the crisp kernels of corn on a hot day in August, or spending hours searching for the treasure hidden deep within the crab shells. Just talking about these foods makes my mouth water.
It wasn't until I ate crab at some cheap crab shack in Annapolis, Maryland that I cam to this shocking realization. Crab with imitation butter just tastes like oily fish, corn on the cob with margarine just tastes like bagged frozen corn, and sourdough bread without the sweet taste of creamy butter is just rotten tasting bread.
All these years I thought my love food was vast and wide but no longer am I deceived. Don't waste your money on crab, corn or bread... just give me a stick of butter.
